WHAT TO AVOID Some topics will be avoided for our goal is to hear the child’s authentic voices not just a replay of their parents opinions. It might be entertaining to hear adult opinions coming out of child’s mouth but our goal is not to exploit the child. We are want to discover their viewpoint—the child’s world as seen from within. We try to avoid the politicized topics for they are so charged with misinformation and strong parent opinion/projection upon the child that their inner world is unavailable.
Also, the way a topic is approached is extraordinarily important. For example we might be discussing, ‘Pushiness or Bossiness‘ while never mentioning the word ‘Bullies‘. One approach is an opening to the child’s world as they see it. While the other leads to a replay of previous discussions heavily weighed down by parent and teacher views on the subject.
